| Roof ties |

Failure to periodically check the roof ties could have catastrophic results say the specialist surveyors instructed by Teignbridge District Council who reported in May 2009. The roof ties are hidden behind the parapet. They connect to metal straps across the top of the bay windows. The directors of the tenant company which has occupied all or part of the building since the 1940s cannot remember anyone checking these ties and think the banding may be pre-war. Of course this part of the building overlooks the pavement. The surveyors also report that the roof joinery on the north west gable wall, adjoining the public house next door are in a poor state and have not been decorated for years because the Council cannot agree access (although they gave access elsewhere to the builder working on the public house). The purlin ends show signs of decay. |
